TOWN COUNCIL LEADER’S 500 MILE CHALLENGE FOR THE MAYOR’S FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN!
The Leader of the Council is aiming to raise £500 for the Mayor of Newbury’s chosen charity Speakability.
Cllr Martin Colston will be cycling 500 miles in 6 days in the Highlands of Scotland on the North Coast 500 route. He will be starting in Inverness on the 16th September, going North along the East coast to John O'Groats, west along the North coast to Durness, then South along the west coast as far as Applecross before heading East back to Inverness. Martin will be carrying his luggage with him on his bicycle throughout the duration of his challenge!
He will be raising funds for Speakability, as part of the Mayor’s ‘One in 100’ Fundraising Campaign. The Mayor’s campaign aims to raise £10,000 by getting 100 local people to raise £100 each.
The Leader said, “My colleague Billy Drummond, the current Mayor of Newbury, has recovered from two strokes and both times was greatly helped in his recovery by Speakability. Speakability works with stroke victims to help them recover their powers of speech. I would like to raise at least £500 for this very worthwhile cause and I’m excited to be a part of the 100 people raising funds for it.”
