TOWN COUNCIL HELPS OUT!
Newbury Town Council has awarded a £5000 contribution towards the redevelopment of Newbury Cricket Club’s pavilion at Northcroft Park, Newbury.
Newbury Cricket Club’s existing pavilion needs a complete overhaul and once complete, it will be used for members of the club and the wider community. As well as community use, the Cricket Club has agreed to work in partnership with local charity, Loose Ends, who will be able to have use of the building on a daily basis all year round. The charity has been serving food and provisions to the homeless and vulnerable in Newbury for 30 years and are delighted to be able to share the use of the new pavilion in order to continue to deliver their vital service.
The contribution will be match funded by the Greenham Trust. As of 11 January 2022, the Cricket Club had already raised £243,111 of their total estimated costs of £309,916.
Cllr Martin Colston, Leader of the Council and Chair of the Policy & Resources Committee said, “We are pleased to be able to contribute towards this very worthwhile project. Once re-developed, the pavilion will be a great asset to the community and to Loose Ends who provide much needed support to the homeless and vulnerable in Newbury”.
He continued, “We have committed, through the Town Council’s Strategy, to provide focused support for young people, elderly, minorities and the vulnerable. This project meets the needs of so many local people and I am excited to see the project completed”.
