THE FUTURE OF VICTORIA PARK’S SKATEPARK IS THREATENED

The future of the competition standard Skatepark in Victoria Park is under threat by continued vandalism. The Skatepark was officially opened in 2012 and it is extremely popular with not only local residents but BMX and Skateboarders who come from miles around to use the facility.

In recent weeks there has been a constant wave of graffiti, some of which has been extremely offensive. This has to carefully be removed by the Town Council’s contractors.  Not only is this an additional expense to the Town Council, but continued cleaning of further graffiti could damage the surface of the Skatepark, meaning that it’s future could be in jeopardy.

We would encourage members of the public, as well as all of our BMXers and skateboarders to be vigilant when in the Park and report any anti-social or criminal behaviour to the Police. You can call the Police using 999 if you witness something happening there and then, or the non-emergency number 101.

Cllr Martin Colston, Leader of the Council said, “We are so disappointed to find that the Skatepark is being continually abused. Most of the users of the Skatepark are there to enjoy themselves, practice their sport and make use of this great free facility. We would urge anyone with any information on who may be causing this damage to go to the Police or If you don’t feel comfortable calling the Police you can always call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111”.
