ROSE BEDS PLANTED IN SUPPORT OF UKRAINE

The Mayor of Newbury, Cllr Gary Norman and local volunteers, including families that have been relocated to Newbury because of the war, have helped to plant a rose bed at the Peace Gardens (by The Wharf) in Newbury.

The bed was planted with 15 yellow ‘Global Beauty’ roses together with a bed of ‘Rozanne’ blue geraniums to be added in the Spring to grow to display the colours of the Ukrainian flag.

Cllr Martin Colston, Leader of the Council said, “The rose bed has been planted to show our support to those fighting and those families that have been displaced from their homes during the continuing war in Ukraine.

The Ukrainian Flag has been flying proudly from our Town Hall since the beginning of March 2022, to show our solidarity and support for the Ukrainian people. Our thoughts and good wishes go out to those who continue to be affected by the war a year on and to all who are suffering during this very traumatic time”.
