The Newbury Town Civic Awards celebrates achievements, honours volunteers and recognises those who make a difference in our community. 2022 sees the awards celebrating 25 years since the launch of the scheme. This year, Newbury Town Council will be celebrating nominees in four categories of awards.
The Mayor of Newbury, Cllr Billy Drummond, said, “I’m so excited to launch the Civic Awards this year. There has been some amazing voluntary work in Newbury over the last year which deserves to be recognised. I encourage everyone to think about the people in their lives who have gone above and beyond and to consider nominating them for a Civic Award for this special 25-year celebration.”
The awards highlight the huge amount of voluntary work carried out in our community in many ways by so many local individuals. Quite often, shopping, collecting prescriptions, cutting the grass for an elderly neighbour is overlooked; however, this is just as important to our community as running a youth or support group, supporting local climate change, fundraising for a charity or being a Governor of a School. There is a great deal of volunteering carried out in the Town and the Civic Awards focus on how our community benefits.
Cllr Drummond expressed his delight at launching the Awards this year, the Newbury Town Civic Award which is in its 25th year, the fourteenth year of the Young Persons Civic Award, the fifth year of the Newbury Town Business Civic Award, the third year of the Newbury Town Environmental Contribution Civic Award.
The winners for 2021’s awards were Eve Hughes, Ellie Chadwick, Colline Watts and Dr Susan Millington. Eve Hughes received the Newbury Town Civic Award in recognition of their volunteering services to Newbury Street Pastors and Action for Children. 17 year old, Ellie Chadwick was the winner of the Young Persons Civic Award for her voluntary contribution in supporting VoxFresh vocal group. The winner of the Newbury Town Business Civic Award was Colline Watts of Colline’s Kitchen who used her role as a caterer and business woman to set up the Parent2Parent Pandemic Fund. Dr Susan Millington was the winner of the Newbury Town Environmental Contribution Award, being the driving force behind the Newbury Friends of the Earth’s Lockdown Woods project.
Nomination forms for all four Civic Awards are available from the Newbury Town Council website www.newbury.gov.uk where the forms may be completed electronically or downloaded. Paper copies of the forms are also available to be collected from the Town Hall or can be posted out upon request.
The closing date for nominations to be received is Sunday 20th February 2022 with a presentation taking place on Wednesday 16th March 2022.
