100M OF HEDGING PLANTED IN VICTORIA PARK

In a community effort to support biodiversity and enhance Newbury’s natural landscape, dedicated volunteers from local company Stryker, came together to plant 100 metres of new hedge line along the A339 at Victoria Park.

This initiative is part of the ongoing Newbury in Bloom campaign, which aims to bring vibrant life and greenery to the local area while promoting environmental sustainability.

The new hedge line, a diverse mixture of deciduous plants, was funded entirely by Stryker, a global leader in medical technology. Their participation in this project aligns with their robust environmental initiatives, showcasing their commitment to creating a greener, healthier planet.

Kate Moore, Senior ProCare Contracts Specialist at Stryker said, “Stryker UK volunteers were thrilled to participate in a hedge-planting initiative this November, organised by the UK's Stryker Environmental Alliance (SEA) and in conjunction with Newbury Town Council, Newbury in Bloom and Newbury Friends of the Earth.

100 metres of hedgerow was planted by over 15 Stryker volunteers to create more green space and encourage wildlife in an area of Victoria Park in central Newbury.

Stryker UK are incredibly grateful to the council for this opportunity and for their expert guidance on the day. It was a fantastic way to contribute to the local community with improving our natural environment as the core, common cause.

We look forward to contributing to similar initiatives into 2025 and beyond.”

Stryker’s volunteers spent a full day contributing their time and energy to the planting. Their collaboration with Newbury in Bloom reflects a shared dedication to environmental stewardship.

Cllr Ian Jee, Chair of the Town Council’s Green Spaces Working Group said, “The new hedge line will act as a natural corridor for wildlife, improve air quality, and offer long-term benefits for the community. As part of Newbury in Bloom, it’s one of many projects fostering a greener future for the town. We would like to thank Stryker and the Newbury Friends of the Earth volunteers for making this project possible”.
