Newbury's Neighbourhood Development Plan
On the 12th of July 2021, Newbury Town Council (NTC) resolved to undertake a Neighbourhood Development Plan (NDP) for the Parish of Newbury.
Put simply, an NDP is a document written by the local community, as opposed the Local Planning Authority (West Berkshire Council, WBC), that sets out planning policies for the neighbourhood area which will be used to decide whether to approve planning applications. This is subject to the NDP being approved through a referendum.
Through an NDP, the people of Newbury will have the opportunity to formulate and shape the future of their town for years to come.
NDP Stages
There are several key stages to the production and implementation of a NDP:
Stage 1: Initial setup and designating the Neighbourhood Area
Stage 2: Creating, and consulting the public on, the NDPs Vision and Objectives
Stage 3: Evidence gathering
Stage 4: Consulting on, and producing, the draft NDP
Stage 5: Finalising and submitting the draft NDP to WBC
Stage 6: Having the draft NDP be approved at a referendum by the electors of Newbury
In order to progress through these steps, a NDP Steering Group has been created.
The Steering Group are running the first NDP consultation - the surveys can be accessed from the NDP Survey webpage.
