TOWN HALL FAMILY OPEN DAY

As part of their 25th Anniversary Celebrations, Newbury Town Council is opening the doors to the Town Hall for the public to enjoy a Family Open Day.

Families are invited to visit the Town Hall on Saturday 30th July from 10am – 12pm where they can meet the Mayor of Newbury, try on Councillor’s robes, sit in the Mayor’s Chair and learn about the history of the Town Hall.

Although meetings in the Town Hall are open to the public, and there are often coffee mornings and other community events in the Chamber, it appears there are still a lot of Newbury people who have never visited the Town Hall. Everyone is welcome to view the Council Chamber, civic staircase, Mayoral Honours boards and the Town Hall’s historic portraits.

There will also be a special exhibition showcasing 25 years of Newbury Town Council’s highlighting key projects and achievements which have helped improve the town and local community. This exhibition will also be available for public viewing at other opportunities in the year.

Mayor of Newbury and Chairman of the 25th Anniversary Working Group, Cllr Gary Norman, said, “The aim of our special anniversary events we have over the rest of the municipal year is to encourage the public to learn about their local council, recognise the work we do and the history of the town they live in. We’re delighted that our events are encouraging the public to learn, visit and get involved with Newbury Town Council.”

This event is free to attend, and refreshments will be available.
