The Newbury Town Civic Awards celebrate achievements, honours volunteers and recognises those who make a difference in our community. This year, Newbury Town Council will be celebrating nominees in five categories of awards. New for 2024, the Local Community Group Civic Award has been introduced to recognise the work of local groups who provide service to the Town.

The Mayor of Newbury, Cllr Nigel Foot, said, “I am very excited about the upcoming Civic Awards ceremony. It’s a great way for us to celebrate and thank all the innovative, caring ideas and actions that our residents come up with.

It’s always very humbling to hear how much time and effort our volunteers within the community, devote to many projects that help the town. This year we are delighted to announce a new Civic Award for Local Community Groups. This allows us to recognise larger organisations involving many individuals and thank them for their contribution to Newbury.”

The award winners for 2023 included Kerry Bird who received her award for initiating the Speen Community Café at the Starting Gate Pub and 17-year-old Ashley Aspinwall who was the winner of the Young Persons Civic Award for their voluntary work as a young leader at Waterside Centre.

The winner of the Business Civic Award was Gardner Leader who regularly support events in the community, and their help to the Ukrainian community. Emma Fearnley was the winner of the Environmental Contribution Award, working with her husband Derek for their work as trustees of Newbury & District Beekeepers Association.

The closing date for nominations is Sunday 25th February 2024 with the awards presentation taking place on Wednesday 13th March 2024.
