NEWBURY TOWN COUNCIL ENCOURAGES RESIDENTS TO LAY SUMMER POSIES AT NEWBURY WAR MEMORIAL FOR 80TH ANNIVERSARY OF D-DAY

In commemoration of the 80th Anniversary of D-Day, Newbury Town Council invites residents to lay summer posies at the Newbury War Memorial. This gesture is meant to honour and reflect upon the significant events and commemorations of this historic day.

The D-Day landings on 6 June 1944, were a pivotal moment in World War II, marking the beginning of the liberation of Western Europe. As we observe this solemn anniversary, we encourage our community to come together in a moment of remembrance and tribute.

Residents are welcome to visit the War Memorial on Bartholomew Street to place their posies starting from 5 June, the eve of D-Day 80th Anniversary and the week following.

Newbury Town Council hopes this initiative will provide an opportunity for reflection and community solidarity as we honour the legacy of the heroes of D-Day.

The Town Council are supporting the events taking place at Greenham Control Tower; a daytime service commencing at 10am, and the Tower Lighting in the evening. A free shuttle bus service has also been arranged by Newbury Town Council, to take guests from Newbury to Greenham Control Tower for both events.
