MAYOR’S FESTIVE AFTERNOON TEA A SUCCESS!

The Mayor of Newbury hosted a Festive Afternoon Tea on Tuesday 13th December for around 40 guests all over the age of 75, to celebrate the Festive Season at Newbury Baptist Church Hall.

On arrival they were greeted by the Mayor & Mayoress of Newbury, Cllr Gary Norman and Sabrina Chetcuti and given a welcome drink before being served an afternoon tea accompanied by some festive music.

Following the tea, the Mayor hosted a game of bingo and encouraged tables to take part in a Christmas quiz. Gifts were presented to the oldest gentleman and oldest lady present; in attendance was 97-year-old Millicent (Helen) Fageant and 89-year-old Reginald (Reg) Young. Both were delighted to receive a box of chocolates.

The Mayor of Newbury, Cllr Gary Norman, said “Everyone had a wonderful afternoon. I got some great feedback from guests as they left, and I enjoyed it myself as much as anybody. It was a great way to get everyone in the festive spirit and we hope to make this an annual event in years to come.  I would like to thank all staff, volunteers, Newbury Baptist Church and our caterers, ‘Casual Dining By John’, for all their hard work to make sure the day went smoothly for our guests.”
