GREAT TURNOUT FOR RETURN OF FOOTBALL AT VICTORIA PARK!

There was a great turnout for the return of football at Victoria Park on Sunday with two youth team games playing the first matches. Local rivals CSA 07 Youth U10 Tigers and AFC Newbury Boys and Girls U10 Red joined in the friendly battle, and CSA 07 Youth U10 Jaguars took on Basildon Badgers U10.

The Deputy Mayor of Newbury, Cllr Andy Moore presented commemorative medals to everyone who took part on the day.

Cllr Vaughan Miller, Chair of the Town Council’s Community Services Committee, responsible for bringing the pitch back into play, attended the event and said, “It was so exciting to be able to watch the children enjoying the football pitch at Victoria Park on Sunday. My sincere thanks go to the Officers at the Town Council who have worked incredibly hard to make this happen.

We would like to especially thank Lewis Freeman, the Manager at Better Fitness and Health for allowing parking for the teams in their car park for the event.

He continued, “Our thanks also go to Simon Alston, Chair of CSA07 and Jason Braidwood, Vice Chairperson of AFC Newbury for their collaboration in making this happen and the Reading and West Berkshire League for assisting with the fixture venue changes to allow these games to go ahead on Sunday”.

The football pitch has had significant investment and improvements made over time and has been marked out with two small-sided pitches to enable junior teams up to the age of 18 to book and play. We are now taking bookings for both casual and block bookings up to the end of April 2024. The pitch can also be used for youth training sessions.

The Town Council have made provision for Samba Goals, which are quality portable football goals to enable a flexible solution for all small, sided games. These goals can be erected and broken down easily and stored away after each game or training session by the teams.

We are delighted to say we are now taking bookings and would urge any teams who are interested in playing to contact our Community Services Team on 01635 35486 or email towncouncil@newbury.gov.uk.

Newbury Town Council also provide football pitches at City Recreation Ground and Wash Common Recreation Ground, both of which are hugely popular and used for both junior and adult games regularly at weekends.
