'EXPLORE NEWBURY’ HERITAGE WALKING TOURS ARE BACK!

Newbury Town Council’s Heritage Working Group will resume its very popular ‘Explore Newbury’ heritage walking tours in July.

The first walk will take place at 10.30am on Tuesday 5 July and will cover the First Battle of Newbury, starting from the Falkland Memorial.

Six further walks in July and August, relating to different aspects of Newbury’s history, will all start at 10.30am on a Tuesday from outside the Corn Exchange in the Market Place.  Each walking tour will be led by one of the recognised Newbury historians who was also involved in the pre-lockdown walks programme.  Subjects include the history of Newbury, Newbury’s historic buildings, Newbury’s art and architecture, and Newbury in the War.

For tickets and further information visit the Corn Exchange website: https://cornexchangenew.com/event/newbury-walks. Tickets cost just £5 for adults and £2.50 for children under 12. The walks last 1½ hours, except for the battlefield tour which lasts 2 hours.

Cllr Nigel Foot, Vice Chairperson of the Newbury Town Council Heritage Working Group said, “The leaders of each of these walking tours has deep knowledge of their subject, and those

taking part will find them to be an excellent introduction to Newbury history.

He continued, “We are most grateful to the tour leaders for their participation.  The funds collected will contribute to the Town Council’s heritage work.”
