Newbury is set to celebrate its musical heritage with the unveiling of its 21st blue plaque, honouring Alphonse Cary, a visionary entrepreneur whose work shaped the town’s musical life for decades. On Friday 23rd January at 11am, the Mayor of Newbury, Cllr David Harman, will unveil the plaque at the corner of 47 Northbrook Street—the building Cary constructed in 1882, which today houses the Dog’s Trust Charity Shop.

 The Mayor of Newbury, Cllr David Harman, together with the Mayoress, hosted a Festive Afternoon Tea on Friday 12^th December at Newbury Baptist Church Hall, bringing together fifty of Newbury’s senior residents for a relaxed and cheerful afternoon in the run-up to Christmas.

Newbury Town Council is pleased to share an update on the redevelopment of the Victoria Park Café, a major investment in the future of one of the town’s most loved community spaces.

Despite a rainy Saturday morning, community spirit shone brightly in Victoria Park as volunteers gathered to support the Newbury Rotary Club’s ‘Purple for Polio’ initiative. 

On 29 November 2025, Newbury in Bloom’s Community Bulb Planting Day at Hutton Close Recreation Ground brought residents together for a morning of teamwork, fresh air, and environmental stewardship, resulting in the successful planting of 1,000 spring bulbs.

The Mayor of Newbury is inviting the town’s most senior residents to join him for a Festive Afternoon Tea Party, celebrating the season and the contributions of Newbury’s older community.

Newbury is celebrating outstanding success in this year’s Thames & Chiltern in Bloom competition, earning a Silver Gilt Award and winning Best Large Town for the first time. The celebrations also saw a heartfelt moment as the Secret Garden Project received a Special Recognition Award from the judges for exceptional community engagement.
