26 Nov Volunteers Needed for Community Planting at Wash Common!
Following other successful community planting and pruning days in the town earlier in the year, the Newbury in Bloom team are hosting two community tree planting days at Blossom’s Field in Wash Common Saturday 5th and Saturday 12th December from 10am to 2pm.
Volunteers are being asked to come along and help plant 100 new trees to replace those that have had to be removed due to disease and decay last year. 20 additional specimen trees are also being planted at the Wash Common Recreation Ground. The trees will be native deciduous species that will create a new woodland in the area at Blossom’s Field.
To ensure these planting events can go ahead in a socially distanced way, we will only be allowing a maximum of 15 volunteers on each day so if you are interested please register with our Grounds Maintenance Officer, James Heasman by email: firstname.lastname@example.org
Cllr John Gage, Chair of the Green Spaces Working Group, said, “You don’t have to have any experience to volunteer for the planting days. If you want to take part, please let us know so that we can ensure we can be COVID-19 safe. We hope to be able to involve residents in other similar activities throughout 2021 working with Growing Newbury Green and Friends of the Earth Newbury”.
