Newbury Town Council has been looking at ways to further develop and promote the ‘canal corridor’ which runs through Newbury. A Working Group has been established, including a wide range of partners and stakeholders, to come up with ideas and draft an Action Plan to take these ideas forward.
Cllr Jo Day and Cllr Elizabeth O’Keeffe, the Mayor of Newbury, recently visited the Canal and River Trust at the ‘Country File Show’ at Blenheim Palace. The Trust expressed their wish to provide more visitor information by the canal /river in central Newbury. The Town Council, working in partnership with the Trust, is looking at ways in which this might be delivered.
The Leader of the Council, Cllr Martin Colson said, ’We are so lucky in Newbury to have this beautiful waterway in the centre of Town and the range of leisure activities it provides. The Town Plan sets out our objective to develop the Canal as a principal leisure asset for Newbury. To progress this we have set up a Working Group which represents many of the users of theCanal. We are working with the Canal & River Trust and other bodies to identify exciting opportunities to further develop and promote the Canal and all that it has to offer.”
