Newbury Town Council is returning a presentation trowel to the Corn Exchange. The trowel was presented to Councillor Henry Flint, Esq, Mayor of Newbury from 1859 to 1861, by the members of the Corporation on his laying of the foundation stone of the Corn Exchange on 12 July 1861.
The trowel was loaned to the Corn Exchange 15 years ago for permanent public display where it remained until their re-decoration which was completed earlier this year. On the 6 November 2018, Newbury Town Council is gifting the Presentation Trowel to the Corn Exchange for permanent public display.Cllr Adrian Edwards, Leader of the Council said, “We are delighted that the Corn Exchange is able to display the trowel for all to see. It seems a shame that such an historic object was locked away unseen. Now everyone will be able to view it”.
