Newbury Town Council's Strategy

Newbury Town Council has just completed a comprehensive review of the Council’s Strategy, focusing on the aims of objectives of the Council for the next 2 years.

For the first time, the Strategy contains a clear Mission Statement:
Newbury Town Council is committed to continuing to make Newbury a better place to live, work and visit.

Some of the highlights of the Strategy include:

For Victoria Park, the provision of Café facilities and new changing rooms for the improved facilities at the football pitch and the tennis courts in the Park and to achieve the Green Flag Award. The Council also proposes to hold an Annual Family day, in early summer in the Park, to promote the Park and the wide range of facilities it offers.

To prepare a Newbury Town Plan, 2019 to 2036 and establish a Newbury Development Trust to bring together the important stakeholders who can deliver the objectives of the Town Plan:

To grow our Newbury in Bloom campaign and when ready, to re-enter Britain in Bloom.

To provide signage and footpaths for walking and cycling routes to and from the Town Centre and local schools.

To install charging points for electric cars.

The Council will also work with others to urge BT to improve the appearance of the BT tower in the Town Centre and to establish a Newbury Arts Council and a Newbury Sports Council.

Councillor Miles Evans, Chairman of the Council’s Strategy Working Group, said, “This is an ambitious Strategy which shows the Councils commitment to the people of Newbury”.

He continued, “The Strategy sets out our aims and objectives, and provides the policy framework within which the Council will make its decisions and will inform our budget-setting and expenditure over the coming 2 years. It includes the ongoing services of the Council and any additional services which the Council might consider delivering in the future, as well as a number of new projects that the Council wishes to undertake”.

The Strategy outlines 3 different policy areas for delivering our Mission Statement:

Objective 1: Delivering services for the People.

Objective 2: Representing the aims, ambitions, view and concerns of all the people of Newbury as the elected body for the Town.

Objective 3: Exercising Good Governance and best practice to ensure that we are open, transparent and accountable.

The Council will prepare an action plan so that we can report quarterly on the delivery of these services and progress on the projects contained in the Strategy.

The Strategy in full can be downloaded from the Town Council’s website and printed copies are available at the Town Hall.
