The new floodlighting system at the Victoria Park Tennis Courts will be officially switched on at 5pm on Thursday November 30th. All are invited to attend and try out the courts under floodlights, when the tennis coaches will be there to answer any questions about their coaching programmes.
Once the floodlighting is switched on, players will be able to use the courts up until 9:30pm with the new floodlighting which has been installed as the final phase or the refurbishment.
The newly refurbished Victoria Park tennis courts have been open since March 2017 and have proven to be very popular with over 300 annual memberships taken up together with a successful coaching program. The total tennis courts refurbishment cost in excess of £100,000 and was funded from the legal settlement secured by the Council last year, together with a £39,893 grant from the Lawn Tennis Association and a £10,000 contribution from a West Berkshire Council Members Bid towards the new lighting.
Cllr Adrian Edwards, Leader of the Council said, “The tennis courts area already well used and with the addition of the floodlighting we are confident that they will be used even more. We encourage everyone to come along to this switch on event and find out how they can join this great community facility”.
The online booking system, ‘Clubspark’ allows people to register and book online. The annual cost for membership is just £36 which will allow a whole family to play unlimited times within a year. You can also book online on a ‘pay and play’ basis, costing £3 per 30 minutes. When players choose to use the floodlighting there will be an extra charge of £1.50 for every 30 minutes play.
Once you have booked online, you are given an access code to enter the courts, guaranteeing that your court is booked and ready for you when you arrive. Further details on the booking process are on our website www.newbury.gov.uk/tennis.
