Heritage Open Day 2017

Town Hall Chamber Open to the Public

Treasure the Treasures on your Doorstep!

Saturday 9 September, 10.00 am to 4.00 pm

Newbury Town Hall is throwing open its doors to the public so that everyone can view the Council Chamber, historical portraits, maces and other civic regalia - including the Honours Boards, which lists all the Mayors of Newbury, going back to 1596.

This year marks the 20th Anniversary of Newbury Town Council and our Open Day will include a display of achievements, events and people associated with the Town Council since it was established in 1997. The event is free and all are welcome.

Speaking ahead of the event, Leader of the Council, Adrian Edwards said: “As Town Councillors, we are proud of our heritage and traditions dating back to the first Charter of Queen Elizabeth I in 1596. We invite you to join us in the Council Chamber on 9th September to share this experience with you”.

The Victorian Town Hall (pictured) was built between 1876 and 1878 and The Town Hall clock and clock tower were added three years later, in 1881. The Municipal Offices (facing Mansion House Street), were added in the early 1900s.

The event is taking place on Saturday 9 September from 10:00 until 16:00.
