On Saturday 27th May Newbury Town Council will be holding a Family Day for all the family and we invite you to join us in Victoria Park between 10am and 3pm. This will be your chance to come along and find out what has been happening with the extensive refurbishments in the Park and enjoy its facilities.
The Newbury Bowls Club has seen a lot of changes over the last year, with a newly laid bowling green and the removal of the surrounding fir trees so it’s more open, and you will be able to enjoy watching the matches. You can also give it a try yourself and the Bowls Club are happy to welcome new members. On the 27th May the Club will be open from 10:30 am for everyone to look around and have a chat about membership and how you can get involved.
The Grand Opening of the newly refurbished Tennis Courts will be taking place on the day at 11:30am with our special guest, Jonathan Overend, BBC Radio 5 Live Presenter. Jonathan spent a decade as the BBC’s tennis correspondent and in this role he travelled around the world to Grand Slams and top-tier tour events, as well as the Davis Cup and Fed Cup ties. Jonathan now hosts BBC 5 Live Sport programmes at weekends.
You can come along and meet our new coaches too. Classes are held, in partnership with the Community Tennis Association, for children and adults of all abilities. For more information on the coaching please go to https://www.ctatennis.org/
A whole family can join as members of the Tennis Courts for just £36 a year and can play as much as they like! You just need to register on the system via www.newbury.gov.uk/tennis and book a court. You can also ‘pay and play’ from just £3.
Our new Splash Park, which was opened last year, will be open for the summer, the Skate Park will have demos from local Skateboarders and BMXers and we’ll have some children’s rides and a bouncy castle too.
BST Fitness will be on hand to give fitness advice at our gym equipment area.
The ‘Friends of Victoria Park’, a volunteer group who welcome new members, will be available at the event to discuss their involvement, which includes practical help, for example, maintaining some of the flower beds within the Park, and being consulted by the Council in decisions which affect the future of the Park.
Newbury Town Council would like to invite everyone along on Saturday 27th to see what’s going on and enjoy all the facilities on offer!
