Newbury in Bloom 2017 Launch

Newbury in Bloom 2017 has also been shortlisted to receive a grant from Tesco through their ‘Bags of Help’ campaign. Three groups in every Tesco region have been shortlisted to receive the cash award and this month shoppers are being invited to head along to Tesco stores to vote for who they think should take away the top grant with Newbury in Bloom being one of them.

With this grant, we hope to be able to support Community Projects who wish to take part this year and encourage group participation

Newbury in Bloom features a competition with an additional two categories added for 2017, which includes Almshouses and Community Projects.  We are also continuing our aim to enter the national Britain in Bloom competition in the next year or two, judged by the Royal Horticultural Society.

The 6 categories for 2017 are:

  • Primary School Garden
  • Place of Worship Garden
  • Public House/Restaurant/Small Business
  • Allotment
  • Almshouses
  • Community Projects

Newbury in Bloom leaflets/entry forms will be available from the Town Hall in the Market Place or they are available for downloaded on the Newbury Town Council website

Of course, encouraging better practice in our own competition can only help Newbury’s case when Newbury enters the Royal Horticultural Society’s national “Britain in Bloom” competition in future years.

As in previous years, the Town council will be putting up over 100 hanging baskets throughout the Town Centre and businesses can order beautiful bright hanging baskets for the summer at £60 each, which includes watering throughout the season. If your business already has hanging basket brackets, you will receive your order form very soon. If your Town Centre business is interested in having a new bracket installed please contact the Community Services team on 01635 35486.

“We were so pleased with the enthusiasm of the entries for last year’s event and this is an opportunity for everyone to help make Newbury look its absolute best” said Councillor Sarah Greenall, Chairperson of the Newbury In Bloom Working Group “We encourage everyone to take part and make the campaign even more of a success for 2017.”

Closing date for entries is 30 June 2017 and the judging for the competition will take place from 10 – 16 July.  For further information, entry forms and details of sponsorship opportunities, contact James Heasman at Newbury Town Council on 01635 35486, email   or see our website
