Works have started on the repair of the Park Way pathway, fencing and wall repairs, together with essential tree works within Victoria Park and its surrounds. These repairs are being funded from the legal settlement secured by the Council in 2015.
While the Works are being carried out the bus stop on Park Way, adjacent to the main entrance of the Park, has been moved closer towards the Camp Hopson car park.
Before the railings can be repaired, 5 trees which run alongside the Park Way fence line will be removed. The removal and repair of the railings started on Monday 20 March prior to the Works being carried out on the wall. The wall and pavement will be levelled and a reinforced bund will be constructed to shore up the wall.
New trees semi mature will be planted to replace those lost within the Park later on in the year.
Cllr Dave Goff, Leader of the Council said, “We are pleased to be finally on the way to completing all of the repairs in Victoria Park and are looking forward to the Park being back to its former glory as the Jewel in Newbury’s Town Centre.”
