Newbury Civic Awards 2017

The Newbury Town Civic Award Schemes have been launched for 2017 and nomination forms are available for completion online or to print off from the Newbury Town Council website www.newbury.gov.uk

The two awards highlight the huge amount of voluntary work carried out in our community in many ways by so many local people.  This year we are putting an emphasis on ‘Good Neighbours’. Quite often, shopping, collecting prescriptions, cutting the grass for an elderly neighbour is overlooked, however this can sometimes be just as important to our community as running a youth or support group, fundraising for a charity or being a Governor of a School - There is a great deal of volunteering carried out and the schemes focus on how our community benefits.

Mayor of Newbury, Cllr Julian Swift-Hook, is delighted to launch both the Newbury Town Civic Award Scheme which is in its 20th year, and the ninth year of the Young Persons Civic Award Scheme, sponsored by The Swift Group of Companies. “If you know someone who gives up their time to make a difference in Newbury, whether it’s doing a bit of shopping for their neighbour or raising huge amounts for charity, we want to hear about them.  Quite often small things can make a huge a difference in people’s lives, things that might otherwise go un-noticed, and our Civic Awards are a way of celebrating those contributions and the impact they have.”

“Just filling in our simple Nomination Form is all it takes to put someone forward for an award.  It only takes a few moments, and your nomination could be one of our winners this year.”

The winners for 2016 were Rosemary Lister and Ashley Reade.  Rosemary received her award for her eight years of tireless support offered to families across West Berkshire through the home-visiting service provided by Home-Start West Berkshire in addition to her support of the Home-Start Family Group forming positive, supportive relationships with both parents and children alike, whilst Ashley was chosen as winner of the Young
Persons Civic Award for his commitment to volunteering at the Community Furniture Project.

Nomination forms for both Civic Award Schemes are available from the Newbury Town Council website www.newbury.gov.uk where the forms may be completed electronically or downloaded. Paper copies of the forms may be collected from The Town Hall, Market Place, Newbury, RG14 5AA or by telephone 01635 35486.

The closing date for nominations to be received is Friday 8 March 2017 and presentation of awards will take place on the evening of Monday 20 March 2017.
